Founded by Stephen Bishop, his 25 years of formal wear experience has helped design a truly exclusive, modern and relevant formal wear range. Stephen Bishop
When starting my 25 years working within the men's formal wear industry, I was bemused by the lack of choice offered by suppliers and competitors alike. It was this lack of choice and quality that made me get out there and to try and create something better for my then employer.
The first attempt was to negotiate with high end suppliers to offer something better, more fitted, more wearable. This was successful to a degree but limited. To achieve the type of styling and quality that I wanted, in 1997 I was able to arrange for to buy and subsequently hire out designer formal wear by Establishment's Mr Tom Gilbey. Tom was a supreme designer in the 70's designing ranges for the likes of C&A amongst others. In the latter part of Tom's design career he specialised in hand painted waistcoats, glamorous smoking jackets and truly stunning suiting for society and celeb's alike. This was the quality and difference I was looking for and so began the original "designer hire". My collaboration with Tom also saw my first input into suit and accessory design. In conjunction with Tom Gilbey himself, it was this perfect marriage of minds that created a truly unique and very exclusive formal wear range.
With Tom Gilbey's retirement came a dilemma, no more designer hire. Not so. Designer suiting to hire was so popular with more and more grooms buying their specialist outfits that I went back to the home of suiting, Savile Row. There I approached none other than Ozwald Boateng. To cut a long story short, I was able to bring this ultra-stylish and modern range of suiting to the formal wear hire industry. A world exclusive, at last I was starting to feel comfortable with the quality and or styling on offer.
The experiences of dealing with the likes of Tom Gilbey and the Ozwald Boateng team gave me an insight into the development of styling, where inspiration comes from and so on and helps me push the boundaries just that little bit. Formal Wear does have etiquette limitations but it does not limit fit and quality, our wallets tended to do that. Thankfully the last decade has seen men's outfitting for formal events, especially weddings becoming more of a priority resulting in slightly larger budgets being set for menswear. This has helped me and other formal wear specialists break out from the norm and to offer or create clothing worthy of formal events.
I was fortunate to create an award Formal Wear industry leader and to maintain this over a number of years. With the passing of time came a desire to become master of my own destiny. I also wanted to offer a different, slower, more individual and special customer service and to explore the ability to create even greater tailoring and suiting in both variation and quality.
So here we are. I have established "Stephen Bishop Suiting" a suiting specialist company to offer products and service that are sought after but not easy to find. Creating my own label designs to run alongside established Savile Row Tailoring and world renowned shoe makers like Oliver Sweeney ensures that quality is not an issue. A visit to my new showroom with the unique try on only area ensures privacy and a one to one consultation with experienced wedding specialists. terms and conditions
Suit Hire
We do suggest booking as early as is comfortable. Given that the majority of the products on offer from Stephen Bishop are exclusives, time is required to order items that you or your wedding may require.
All suit hire is available to collect 72 hours before the occasion date. Suit hire returns are required by the next working day. This time period can be changed upon request and may be subject to charges.
Off The Peg
Our team will endeavour to find the perfect suit for you there and then. Most suits will be available to order should we not have your size or colour. This will typically require 6 weeks’. Standard alterations are free. The more intricate adjustments will carry a charge.
Made to Measure
Given that Stephen Bishop suiting are offering a true tailoring service requiring a minimum of two fittings after the initial consultation, your busy lifestyles and of course the suit making time, we do suggest a lead time of 12 weeks to create your special creation. We can offer a fast track version requiring only 1 fitting however this is not recommended.
Accessories
We have tried to ensure that all goods held in stock are of the highest quality and are supported by the respective designers whose items we carry. All items are available to order should our stocks be low at the time of your order but to avoid disappointment, we would recommend time be aloud for the accessorising of your outfit(s).
Discounts
With the exception of launch and Wedding Show offers, Stephen Bishop suiting believe that they offer a product and service without compare. Regards to suit hire you will not find the trade standard discounts however we have ensured that our pricing is competitive without the need for discounts or offers.
How to Order – Appointments
Stephen Bishop suiting wish to offer a service without rival and believe that this is only achievable by giving you our fullest attention. Therefore we operate an appointment only service. You will have our entire showroom at your disposal and once ready to choose an outfit will be taken to our unique "Try on Area" where you will be offered tea, coffee or something with bubbles.
APPOINTMENTS ARE VERY SOUGHT AFTER so it is important that once booked, they are taken up with an actual visit. We would appreciate very much that you notify us at your earliest convenience so that we can reserve another appointment for others. Appointment duration is 75 minutes. Please be aware that late arrival will limit your time. We will of course endeavour to adapt to any timing issues.
Order Payment
Any order will be subject to a part payment of 50% with the exception of any offer that may dictate otherwise.
Hire Damage Cover
Given the nature of our product, an optional damage cover will be recommended to you at £8.99 per hire order. This will ensure that each hire order is covered up to the value of £600.00 (equivalent to a jacket and trousers combination).
Hire Security Deposit
It is possible that the retail value of a hire suit totals £1000.00+ Therefore Stephen Bishop suiting will require a security deposit of £100.00 per order. This will be by way of pre authorising a credit card to the relevant value unless other arrangements have been made.
Made To Measure
A made to measure is truly a team effort. It requires time and effort from both parties to ensure the smooth running of the entire process. Any timescales quoted are subject to the making time but also the ability for fitting appointments to be carried out speedily. Therefore timescales for the suit making to finish may differ or be subject to change.
